Call for Applications: Editor-in-Chief, Nursing History Review

The Editorial Board of Nursing History Review seeks applications for the job of Editor-in-Chief, starting September 1, 2023, with a three-year commitment. Published for over thirty years, NHR showcases significant new scholarship in nursing and healthcare history.  The journal is currently published once a year in January, with final copy to Texas Christian University Press due the previous April of each year.  Manuscripts are received by December 1 of each year (publication 13 months later).  The Editor receives manuscripts, selects peer reviewers, evaluates reviews, makes final decisions about manuscripts selected for publication, and corresponds with authors. The Editor may designate a Managing Editor to help with this process and complete copy edits of all manuscripts prior to submitting them to TCU Press. Stipends for both Editor and Managing Editor are negotiated with the AAHN President.

The Editor-in-Chief meets with the Editorial Board at regular intervals during the year (on zoom) and once a year at the annual AAHN conference.

Preferred Qualifications include: (1) PhD in nursing, or PhD in history with focus on healthcare history, or MD-PhD with a focus on healthcare/nursing history, or a PhD in a related healthcare field with a focus on history (2) a publication in the field of healthcare history in NHR, The Bulletin of the History of Medicine or equivalent journal, (3) a published book on nursing/healthcare history (or one that is in press),  (5) membership in AAHN, and (6) a documented record of scholarship in the field of nursing/healthcare history and academic publishing.
