During this webinar, a brief historical overview of events leading up to the Holocaust, including the role of German physicians and nurses, will be provided. Ways in which this history can enhance nursing education curricula will be discussed. Engaging students with this history provides them with opportunity to reflect, develop a professional identity, and formulate opinions about contemporary issues in genetics/genomics, public policy, public health ethics, ethics in mental health nursing, and the role of healthcare professionals in society. Samples of learning objectives, learning activities, and publicly available historical sources will be shared.

Learning Objectives:
By the end of the webinar, participants will be able to:

1. Describe the role of nurses in events leading up to the Holocaust.
2. Compare the ethical justification of modern public health initiatives to those used by German healthcare providers under Nazism.
3. Identify an existing course in their program’s curriculum where the history of nurses and the Holocaust can be incorporated.
4. Plan a history focused activity related to the Holocaust using the provided sample objectives, activities, and history resources.
