President’s Message
May 1, 2019

Happy Spring! It has finally arrived—at least here in the Commonwealth of Virginia we are seeing the first blossoms!  With these bursts of color comes a spirit of optimism, and today I am feeling optimistic about the future of AAHN!  In that spirit I write to share what our Board accomplished during the March strategic planning session in Charlottesville. The process, led by our consultants, Rich Keeling and Angela Harris of Keeling and Associates, was both exciting and exhausting. Overall, however, it was also productive and rewarding.

During the planning session we revised our vision statement, clarifying what AAHN sees as its purpose. (It only took 8 hours and a box of chocolates to get there!) Using feedback from our members as well as the results of the Diversity and Inclusion survey, we also crafted a mission statement and identified three major goals with specific objectives for each. The next steps will be to identify strategies to accomplish our objectives.

As you can see, the plan is packed with ideas for what the AAHN Board would like to accomplish in the next three years.  I am looking forward to working with all members to achieve these goals. Join us in Dallas in September for further discussion and a chance to volunteer to help!

All my best,

Arlene W. Keeling, PhD, RN, FAAN
