President's Message August 2025I hope that you all have had a restful and happy summer filled with holidays and are excited for the start of the academic year! I wanted to share with you some news about what is upcoming at the American Association for the History of Nursing. AAHN Fundraising Campaign To put AAHN on a firmer financial footing, we are launching a fundraising campaign with a fundraising goal of $12,000 for our operating budget. To donate, please click here or on the purple donate button on the homepage of our website. Any donation is much appreciated and will help us to continue to offer free events to AAHN members. Registration Now Open for the 42nd Annual Nursing and Healthcare History Conference, October 16-18, 2025, in Wilmington, NC Registration is now open for our 42nd annual conference! You can pay for your registration either by cheque or by credit card. Join us on Thursday, October 16th, for the AAHN Preconference: Trauma-Informed Pedagogical Approaches: Enhancing Empathy and Safety When Teaching History to Prepare Students for Contemporary Nursing Practice. There is also still space available for the WilmingtonNColor Shuttle Tour happening after the preconference. Save the Date for the 2026 Annual Conference Please save the date for the 43rd Annual Nursing and Healthcare History Conference to be held jointly with the American Association for the History of Medicine from June 3-7, 2026, in Buffalo, NY. More details, including a call for abstracts, will be available shortly. Virtual Networking Events In an effort to help us keep the connections that we forge each year at our in-person annual conference and provide a mentoring opportunity for all our members, we are continuing free, monthly virtual networking events via Zoom. Also, please let us know if you want to add another virtual meet-up subgroup to the schedule! AAHN Virtual Speaker’s Series The AAHN Virtual Speaker’s Series continues this Fall! Join Lydia Wytenbroek on September 5th from 12:00-1:00 pm Eastern time. On October 3rd from 12:00-1:00 pm Eastern time, we will have Lucky Tomdi presenting “‘I Just Want to Be of Help to My Own People’: Race and Inequity in the Gold Coast’s (Ghana) Nursing Service 1940-1950.” Register for the Virtual Speaker’s Series talks here.
