While written histories of the early nurse practitioner movement exist, rare are the stories from individual states where the battles for practice authority were originally fought. This documentary focuses on the legislative struggles in Florida from the 1970s through today, featuring early nurse leaders involved in the evolution of scope of practice laws. Their accomplishments in achieving practice authority carried enormous costs—not only in terms of time and money, but missed opportunities to meet the ever-increasing needs for health care.
