33rd Annual AAHN Nursing Conference

The 33rd Annual AAHN Nursing & Healthcare History Conference is September 22-24, 2016 in Chicago, Illinois at the Hilton Chicago/Magnificent Mile Suites, and is co-sponsored by the University of Illinois at Chicago College of Nursing.

Preliminary Schedule of Events

Thursday, September 22

9:00 AM to 12:00 NOON Pre-conference: The Archivist and the Researcher and the History of Nursing: Building a Relationship. Chicago area medical archivists will discuss their work and their collections.

1:00 PM to 5:00 PM Optional Tour: Jane Adam's Hull House and the Midwest Nursing History Research Center. 

1:00 PM to 5:00 PM: AAHN Board Meeting

7:00 PM to 8:00 PM: While I am Here: the life and legacy of Anne Larson Zimmerman. A celebration of the life of Anne Zimmerman, 1914 - 2003, a woman who was passionate about nursing and issues related to nurses' economic welfare. Zimmerman was the long-time Executive Director of the Illinois Nurses' Association, President of the American Nurses Association from 1976 to 1978, and the Keynote Speaker at the 1994 AAHN Conference in Chicago. 

Friday, September 23

Historian Dr. Beatrix Hoffman will present the 2016 Eleanor Herrmann Krohn Lecture titled: Nurses and the Right to Health Care. Dr. Hoffman is an authority on the history of health insurance in the US. She is currently guest curator of the National Library of Medicine's most recent exhibition, For All the People: A Century of Citizen Action in Health Care Reform

The University of Illinois at Chicago's College of Nursing will host the Friday Evening Reception at the International Museum of Surgical Science. Located on historic Lake Shore Drive, this fascinating museum overlooking Lake Michigan will provide the perfect venue for this annual conference gathering.

Saturday, September 24

Meet the authors of some newly-released books on the history of nursing, enjoy the silent auction by day and the live auction and banquet at night, and purchase some fabulous "old books" generously donated by members and friends--we have about 200 to sell in support of the AAHN's grants. 

**Please Note: Please Note: Another benefit of the 2016 AAHN conference: There will now be two full days of research presentations starting on Friday morning. Please plan travel accordingly.
