Many nurses who honor and cherish our profession's history acquire artifacts and ephemera from nursing's past. These items often provide glimpses into long ago nurses or illuminate the practice of an earlier age.
Thermometers
This metal case holds a mercury thermometer. It has a chain so that nurses could attach it to their uniform, along with pens, syringes, forceps, scissors, keys, pocket watch, notepaper, whatever else they wanted to keep handy. Sometimes they would sew a utility bag if their uniforms lacked pockets.
